SYNONYM AND HOMONYM
SYNONYM
In this section, I am going to describe a little bit about synonym and homonym. First, I want to start from synonym. As most of you already know, synonym is a word that has a different form but has meaning or the same meaning or similar. Words that are synonyms are called synonymous.
The examples for synonym :
- BIG : large, huge, sizeable, jumbo, mega, massy
- MARVELOUS : amazing, awesome, sensational, astonishing, astounding
- SPLENDID : magnificent, sumptuous, impressive, excellent, wonderful
- BUT : yet, nevertheless, even so, nonetheless, however
HOMONYM
Next, I am going to explain about Homonym. Have you ever heard homonym? Well, homonym is a word that has a different meaning but the same pronunciation or spelling. For the same pronunciation is called homophones, but if the similar one is the spelling then it is called a homograph.
Here are the examples of homonym :
- RIGHT : it refers to correction which is correct or it can refer to directions which is the opposite of left side
- PALM : can be described as a various of evergreen trees or as the inner part of human hand that extends from the wrist to the bases of fingers
- TIE : is known as an item of clothing consisting of a strip of cloth placed around the neck or it can be a verb which means to twist or attach one thing to another
- CAN : it is a modal of auxiliary verb means to be able to or be possible or to be permitted of something, it also belongs to a container usually from steel or aluminium used to carry and dispense water
