 ASSIGNMENT I

In this section, I am going to do my first assignment of Post Intermediate Reading by answering and giving explanation of the questions given below by Ms. Yuna. First, I would like to start with the first reading task. Here is the text to answer the first task.

Here are the questions to answer;

I. Explanation for the very first question

1. The different naming traditions used by people around the world is describe in each paragraph (1-8) as mentioned Korea, Japan, Mexico, U.S and more.

2. The different naming traditions in the U.S is described in the 5th, 7th and 8th paragraph.

3. Reasons why some people's name are hard to remember is described in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th paragraph

4. What happens to a woman when she gets married is described in the 2th, 3th, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th paragraph .

II. Explanation for part B

1. The woman's name is Ms. Lee Hyun Ju from Korea. Her fiance's name is An Ho Jae. Which means if they're getting married, the wife retains her maiden name. Therefore her correct name after marriage is Mrs. Lee Hyun Ju

2. Tomoko Kato is from Japan and her fiance's name is Hideo Suzuki. After marriage, her name is going to be changed to Mrs. Hideo

3. Guadalupe Gomez is from Mexico and her fiance's name is Emilio Rodriguez. As what has been explained before, Mexican woman keeps her maiden name and add her husband's name after the word de (of). After marriage her name will be Guadalipe Gomez de Rodriguez. But in U.S, Mexican would rather be called by their father's family name. So, the wife will still be called Mrs. Gomez

III. Answer for part C

1. I think I call all the people with their first names at first. Especially when it comes to a stranger or someone I just met, as we're not close to each other yet.

The same goes with my name. For those who aren't really close to me or people who only know my name and face, they will call me by my first name. For my beloved ones, they will call me by nickname. Well, some still call me by my first name even though they know that. I think it is just because we're late in getting closed one another. I think I have been using this method since I was just a child, it's working so well. So, all my beloved ones know if a person is closed to me or not just from how the person calls my name.

For the people I call with only their last name, I don't really remember who or why. Because most of Indonesian can be called by their first, middle, last or nickname. I can call my friend by the nickname in the morning, middle name at noon, last name at night, and first name for the next day. Unless they have their own name rules to be called with one name.

2. I am going to have only two examples about how my name would be changed in another country after a marriage. Let's say I get married with Kanemoto Yoshinori. As I'm married with a Japanese, my husband's family name will be added to my surname. So, after marriage my name has changed to Kanemoto Alifia and people can call me Mrs/Ms. Kanemoto.

For another one, let's say I'm getting married with a Korean. My Fiance's name is Na Jae Min and his family name is Na. So, after marriage I am going to keep my surname. But, our children are going to take their father's name which is "Na".

3. In my country, there is no naming rule after you get married. But for some tribe such as Batak, they have naming tradition for the baby born. When the children are born, you have to put the father's family name on her/his last name. For the Bali tradition, Balinese people name their children depending on the order of birth. The firstborn child is named Wayan, Putu or Gede. The second child is named Made or Kadek. The third child goes by Nyoman or Komang. For the fourth one is named Ketut.
